Richard Linklater’s Slacker hit theaters in 1990, a low-budget indie filmed around Austin that followed a day in the life of drifters, artists, and oddballs. With its rambling style and cast of locals, it captured Austin’s quirky spirit and helped launch the city as a hub for independent film.
