No, it’s not an alien. This rare deep-sea fish, which sports a translucent head, was spotted last week by researchers with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Barreleye fish have only been spotted nine times before during MBARI’s 5,600 dives into the species’ habitat.
