Even when something looks like “one colour”, it almost never is. Blending a few subtle tones before you start makes everything easier and gives your work instant depth. Here is my needle felted Mandarin Duck. For this most colourful bird with complex feather shapes I designed layers and patterns to suggest feathers and wings. I fringed the edge of the sail feathers to add a tactile texture to my wool sculpture. It’s almost finished and celebrations will soon commence.
