The revolver Samuel Walker helped design was born from desperate necessity on the frontier. In 1844, Walker was part of a small Ranger force ambushed by a much larger Comanche war party at Walker's Creek. Their five-shot Colt Paterson revolvers, while revolutionary, had significant flaws: they lacked a trigger guard, were fragile, and were slow to reload. Out of this brutal experience, Walker drafted his famous list of improvements for Samuel Colt. His suggestions—including a larger caliber, inc
