A software glitch can lead to a loss of communication between these vehicles and attached trailers, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford has had a record year of recalls and this is the largest one yet. A software issue can interfere with brakes, brake lights and turn signals raising the risk of a crash.

Ford will release the software update for 4.3 million vehicles on March 17 via over-the-air, dealership or mobile service.
