The Tennessee Valley Authority announced Wednesday that it plans to fully close the Alabama 101 Tennessee River crossing for work on the Wheeler Dam bridge during an upcoming weekend.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — The University of Alabama cut the ribbon Tuesday for a new brain health initiative. The program is in partnership with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services.

The TVA said the closure is part of an ongoing refurbishment that began in October 2025.

Starting March 20th at 7:00 pm until Monday, March 23rd, the bridge will be closed as part of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s ongoing refurbishment.

The Wheeler Dam bridge will be fully closed for refurbishment from March 20-23.
